Fiber Optic Sensors

Updating and adding significant new material, the new edition of this seminal work continues to highlight the development of fiber optic sensors and classic applications, while providing an overview of current methods for the construction of high-speed and high-capacity fiber sensor systems. In particular it updates information on the Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG), including its use for GPS guidance. It also adds a chapter that introduces a new type of fiber grating fabricated by femtosecond laser irradiation, which offers improved sensing capability in harsh environments. It also adds a new chapter on fiber optic chemical/biomedical sensors, a fast growing market.
