A book of housing plans created by the Service was a direct result of efforts to aid potential homeowners. Each of the designs in the publication was carefully worked out, planned for convenience, constructed for strength and modeled for beauty. The present volume is a complete republication of that rare edition, containing floor plans, construction materials and drawings or photographs for a wide variety of small homes. Models range from charming five-room English cottages of brick and stucco to attractive two-story shingled Colonials with six rooms, fireplace, French doors and a generous attic. Clearly written descriptions of interiors and exteriors complement detailed plans for each of the 254 homes listed. Remarkable for their generous room sizes, well-lighted rooms, ample closet space, basements and large eat-in kitchens, many of these distinctive and appealing models also display sun rooms, fireplaces, open porches and second-story "sleeping porches."
