Louisiana painting of the 19th century exhibits literal subjectivism -- hard-core reality flavored with an exuberant romanticism and seasoned with the shudder of a Gothic novel. In this volume are samples of art from the W. E. Groves Collection, which contains some 1,500 paintings, prints, watercolors, daguerreotypes, and miniatures, including 155 portraits and 217 landscapes pertaining to Louisiana.
