Prayer is commonly understood as something we
do; we need a new perspective viewing prayer as something we
are. To live a spiritual life is to be a prayer. This is what Jesus taught his disciples when they came to the point of that momentous request: "Lord, teach us to pray." How, then are we to pray? The answer is what we refer to as the Lord's Prayer, a prayer presented, not as a manner of how to approach God, not as a manner of how to speak to God, but as a manner of how to live life. Jesus has given the Lord's Prayer not as a technique, but as a paradigm for how to live fully conscious, completely awake, wholly with God, in the new wine of the Spirit walking the path of the inner life.
