When Sir James Douglas set out to fulfil the last wishes of Robert the Bruce he tragically died at the Battle of Teba in southern Spain and so was unable to take his beloved King's heart to Jerusalem.
700 years later the men and women of Bruce, the Strathleven Artizans and the 40 Bowmen, took on this task numerous times and unfortunately failed. Until now. After being unable to get permission to take the real heart to Jerusalem, we made our own heart from Bruce oak wood and took it to the Holy Land and granted King Robert the Bruce's last wish.
This book tells the story of that journey.
'I commend this book as a fitting tribute to King Robert in his 750th anniversary year but also as the culmination of diligent and painstaking research.' - Lord Charles Bruce, 12th Earl of Elgin
