Description

Prince Igor is an opera in four acts with a prologue, composed by Aleksandr Porfir'evich Borodin in 1869-1887. The libretto was written by the composer himself, with contributions from Vladimir Stasov and others. The story is based on the Russian epic poem The Lay of Igor's Campaign, which tells the tale of a 12th-century Russian prince who goes to war against the Polovtsian nomads and is captured by their leader, Khan Konchak. The opera features a wide range of characters, including Igor's wife Yaroslavna, his brother-in-law Vladimir, and the Polovtsian princess Konchakovna. The music is characterized by its use of Russian folk melodies and colorful orchestration, and includes several famous numbers such as the Polovtsian Dances and the aria ""Prince Igor's Aria"". Despite Borodin's death before the opera was completed, it has become one of the most popular works in the Russian operatic repertoire. The Opera Was Completed After The Composers Death By Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov And Aleksandr Konstantinovich Glazunov. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
