It can be a very dangerous, and indeed a very tragic thing to be alive and not even know the reason why. We cannot afford to journey through life without a clear understanding of divine purpose. It is important to take time to find what God's purpose is for our lives, and to stick to it. We need to stop what we're doing and inquire from God what is his counsel for our lives. "Even if a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years - even if he lives a long, long time, but cannot enjoy his prosperity - even if he were to live forever - I would say, "A stillborn child is better off than he is!" (Eccl. 6:3 - NET). The Scriptures make it clear that God is the Creator, Maker, Molder, Manufacturer or Fabricator of all things. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Gen. 1:1). We also learn from Scriptures that God is a God of purpose; He does nothing without a purpose (Isa. 14:24, 27; 43:13; 46:11). Our existence is not an accident of biology, rather, according to the Scriptures it has been purposed by God before the foundation of the world. Each of us need to discover, in dialogue with God, that there can be a meaningful plan for life. We must affirm that there is something great that we will never be able to achieve unless we align ourselves with God's purpose. Also, there is something wonderful that God will never be able to accomplish through us until we surrender to his will. There is something of ultimate importance that God wants us to achieve for Him. God has a special mission for us to perform in His name. When we come to terms with the Lord, we will know the purpose of our birth. When we discern God's mission for us, we will know what our life is all about; then and only then will our quest for meaning and fulfillment be realized. God created every one of us for a purpose (reason, intent, objective, or goal). Therefore, the greatest tragedy in life is not really death, but life without a sense of purpose. It is tragic to be alive, and not even know why. APOSTLE DAYO BROWN, Ph.D.
