Francis Carco (1886-1958) was a French author, poet, and dramatist, born François Carcopino-Tusoli in Nouméa, New Caledonia. A prominent figure in early 20th-century French literature, Carco was known for his vivid depictions of bohemian life in Paris, particularly in the Montmartre district. His works often featured the street life and colorful characters of the city's underbelly, written in the Parisian argot. Carco's literary contributions spanned various genres, including novels, poetry, and art criticism. He was also a member of the prestigious Académie Goncourt from 1937 until his death in 1958. His notable works include "Jésus-la-Caille" and "L'Homme traqué," which earned him the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française in 1922.

The Romance of Villon is a heavily fictionalized biography of the 15th century poet François Villon.
