They Call Me a Hero: A Memoir of My Youth

When Daniel Hernandez was twenty years old, he was working as an intern for U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords. On January 8, 2011, during a "Congress on Your Corner" event, Giffords was shot. Daniel Hernandez's quick thinking saved Giffords's life until the paramedics arrived and took her to the hospital.
