This evening service is the last part of the Buddhist day. Monks and nuns perform this service before their evening medicine meal. Pure Land practice is mind training, it teaches how to calm your mind, the benefits gained from lifelong practice of a Pure Land method are gained in life and at the moment of death allowing one to choose to pass into rebirth in the Pure Land. The Pure Land is a pure Buddha realm created by Amitabha Buddha. This place is for cultivation of enlightenment and has no obstacles thus making it easier to gain nirvana. Also this place has many people and beings with like minds who support your practice. Far from being a funerary tradition Purelanders embrace life, practice charity without rewards of any kind, study all forms of Buddha dharma, ask for dharma teachings from monks and nuns, and actively participate in temple services, fully supporting the Triple Jewel with donations of money, time and food; all the while diligently practicing mindfulness of Amitabha Buddha. Repentance practice is often the 88 Buddhas Repentance service. The dilligent will often choose to bow with the name of each Buddha being said. It is good practice to help unbind one self of habits and increase merits and virtue. This special service is often done during holidays and a key part of mind training by recitations and bowing practice.
