Kwanzaa gives rise to the idea of leaving the world a better and more beautiful than the way we found it. Collective work, responsibility, determination and faith are vehicles through which we operate when practicing Kwanzaa. The purpose is to empower Black people and repair harm that has been done to families, particularly Black families, as a result of historic racist laws, mass incarceration and systemic racism.
This book provides activities that foster the ability to integrate the seven principles into our lives as students, teachers, performers, intellectuals and community members. It was reviewed and approved by Dr. Karenga and his wife Tiamoyo Karenga, and has been updated to encompass emerging historical people and events. From Dr. Karenga we learn that Kwanzaa is a way of life, "a celebration of family, community and culture." This books helps us celebrate, analyze and progress using the seven principles and cultural practices. Enjoy!
