Description

Now in paperback! Inspired by the richly decorated interiors of medieval churches in Sweden, this sumptuous collection of 20 original knitwear designs includes sweaters, vests, jackets, scarves, and gloves for women, men, and children, all graced with the delicate swirling vines, detailed borders, and striking motifs characteristic of the Middle Ages in Scandinavia. Full&#150color photos provide a fascinating glimpse into the creative and religious history of Sweden; step&#150by&#150step instructions and thorough diagrams allow knitters to make these brilliant works of art new again.
Anna-Karin Lundberg began knitting as a child and is a self-taught graphic and textile designer with a university degree in musicology and ethnology. She is the designer behind the Kaja Sticks collections, playfully traditional designs for handknit garments that are fun to knit and easy to wear. Historical inspiration is a common trait in Lundberg's designs, and her fascination with period costumes is reflected in her motifs, colors, shaping, and knitting technique. http: //www.kajsasticks.se/en/index.htm
"Lundberg has designed a brilliant collection of knits using the palettes, motifs and, in some cases, shapes she discovered on her sojourn through the Middle Ages. This is passionate geekery at its finest, and it's yielded a visual feat of twenty designs- sweaters, vests, and accessories- each presented on a page with project photographs and images of the paintings on which Lundberg based her designs." --Vogue Knitting
"Stunning brocade and swirling vine patterns with embellished borders present themselves in 20 knitting patterns of sweaters, vests, and accessories like scarves and gloves, for men, women, and children. . . . The vibrant colored photographs and illustrations are large, clear, and detailed." --Paula Moliver, Examiner

"The patterns are complex and beautiful--knit in one piece and steeked. They are worked in fine yarn in colors based on how the paintings look today, muted and earthy. Fans of fine colorwork, this is a book worth seeking out." --www.knitty.com

"Though this book appeals to a specialized audience (knitters with an interest in traditional stranded colorwork and the skills to make such detailed patterns) those knitters are passionate about their craft, and will appreciate Lundberg's inspiring collection." --Library Journal>/i>
