Making Marines for 100 Years: The History of Marine Corps Recruit Depot / Western Recruiting Region

A Centennially inspired review of the history of the Marine Corps in San Diego, from its expeditionary base past to its current role training over half of the young men and women joining the Marine Corps. One of the three spiritual homes of the elite Corps of Marines, along with a sister Depot in South Carolina and the Officers Candidate School in Virginia, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego holds a special place in the hearts of Marines as well as those who support and admire them. This work, more entertaining than scholarly, details the over 100 years that a Marine Corps presence in San Diego has contributed to the national defense, the San Diego Community, and changed the trajectory of the lives of well over two million Marines.
