Human consciousness is more than just experience. It has included thought since we became human. Cognition and humanity are the result of language. And there is nothing universal or natural about language. Language is cultural and artificial. The result is that human consciousness is a hybrid 'black swan' phenomenon.
Some of the great thinkers of the past knew this. They are being deliberately ignored by philosophers and neuroscientists.
The book provides evidence of that.
Human consciousness is not biological, but meta-evolutionary.
Tens of thousands of years ago something unique took place. Hominins had begun a long process, grunting and yelling. At some point along the line, the process changed into something artificial. Hominins had created language, and language created humanity.Complex thought would follow, together with time, imagination and memory.
Had cognition been natural, we would come into this world with full language comprehension and speech. Like other animals, however, we are born naturally, and only sentient. Every generation we have to be taught how to speak and think.
