Note: This HTP Guidebook is for Group Therapy - There is a separate HTP Guidebook for Self-help or to Support Individual Therapy.
The Historical Trauma Programme (HTP) is a comprehensive and science-based model of help created for adults who experienced childhood abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The HTP is unique in that it developed over more than 10 years of close collaboration between dozens of NHS therapists and several hundred clients. This partnership resulted in a powerful programme of recovery which combines the best ideas and strategies from trauma studies, clinician experience, and (importantly) the 'voices' of many who experienced childhood trauma. Designed for engagement and inclusion, the Guidebook is written in a highly accessible style and is supported by a free audio version, the HTP Community Website, and HTP YouTube Channel (see below).
This version of the Guidebook has been designed to support a programme of facilitated Group Therapy you and others are engaging in. The Guidebook and your group therapy experiences work together to support you with:
The HTP Community Website and HTP YouTube Channel provide additional support and resources to compliment your work with the HTP Guidebook (see links below). A free audio version of the Guidebook is also available for download from the HTP website or can be live-streamed from our YouTube channel. While you will still need to use the print version alongside the audio to be able to engage with exercises, checklists, etc... many clients have used the audio and print version together with good results.
