In 1968 two Aussie girls left London for a short skiing holiday, unexpectedly ending up hitchhiking across North and East Africa, over 16,000kms in 9 months, having the time of their lives. Totally unprepared and without benefit of the internet, iPhones, credit cards or Lonely Planet guides, they endured heatwaves, sandstorms, dangerous predicaments in isolated places, a car crash and wild elephants in an extraordinary journey, impossible to do today. Embracing surprises and challenges with resilience and good humour they were protected by bewildered strangers with no idea who they were or what they were doing. A great adventure.
