Son of War

A wraith sorcerer strikes a devastating blow to the very heart of the Empire of Toki, and young Himaku Utwa witnesses the bloody maelstrom that claims his dearest friend.

Himaku is a gentle intellectual, and anticipated a life of luxury and learning, but the turmoil has shattered that dream. His father, lord general of the Toki army, sends Himaku to the War College, where komei, the greatest warriors in the world, are trained.

Traumatized and feeling wholly unsuited for a warrior's life, Himaku sees no hope of success or even survival. Then his father confesses a shocking truth: he needs him. To resist the necromancer responsible for the coming war, he needs komei leaders, strategists, and tacticians, not just soldiers. He needs an heir who can devise a strategy and gather allies to face the impending undead menace. The necromancer Huk-Ta has survived two defeats, and is now harvesting the souls and minds of komei.

The quest to find answers and allies takes Himaku far, but failure is not an option. If the Empire of Toki, and the entire region, are to survive, Huk-Ta must be vanquished once and for all.
