"Tia smiles. She and Dwight look up at the sky. They watch the rainbow as they breathe in... and breathe out."
In Tia Catches a Rainbow, Tia the butterfly feels overwhelmed as she rushes through her day trying to do everything at once. When she realizes she's missed something special-a rainbow-she slows down, takes deep breaths, and begins to notice what's around her. With help from Tree, Tia learns that when we pause, breathe, and pay attention to how we feel, we can enjoy the present moment and make more thoughtful choices.
In this lesson, students learn to recognize how their bodies feel when they are stressed and practice a calming strategy called Rainbow Breathing. Through drawing and movement, they explore how slow, mindful breathing can help them feel more calm, focused, and in control. Students begin to build healthy habits for managing emotions in real-life.
