Big Bears at Brooks Falls is a celebration of Katmai National Park and Preserve's brown bears as well as the salmon that sustains them! Brown bears are intelligent, resilient, and adaptable. They have the ability to quickly pack on the pounds as they gorge on salmon in preparation for hibernation that can last up to half a year. Only one adult bear per season will become large enough to be crowned champion of Fat Bear Week, and only one juvenile bear will be voted Fat Bear Junior.
