Hedgehogs have additional adaptations that help them live in their natural surroundings in addition to their spines. They have weak vision, but a keen sense of smell and hearing that they employ to find prey and avoid danger. Hedgehogs are adept climbers and swimmers as well.

Hedgehogs are mainly nocturnal creatures that spend a lot of time searching for food. Together with other insects, they also consume small animals like mice and frogs. Fruits, berries, and other plant stuff are also reported to be eaten by them.

Hedgehogs are favored pets in many parts of the world, yet keeping them as pets is prohibited in several nations. They are threatened in the wild by habitat degradation, traffic, and canine and feline predators.
