At the end of her first week on the job, rookie deputy Kelly Mackinaw finds herself trapped on Lost Lake with three unidentified bodies, twelve potential killers and one vengeful ghost.

As the first female deputy in Wanakena County, Kelly can see with an outsider's eye. As a witness to the mysteries of Lost Lake in his youth, Mitch has troubled insights of his own. Kelly sees corruption and lies everywhere, while Mitch sees tangled auras and conflicting moral responsibilities. Both soon realize that the source of the conflict lies in the brooding village of Shallow Rock, where a sinister cabin squats in the stinking muck of Shakers Bog.
