Sparse and symbolic compositions from the Polish proponent of spiritualism in art
Stanislaw Fijalkowski (1922-2020) had a direct connection to the origins of the European avant-garde; he was an assistant of Wladyslaw Strzeminski, who in turn had studied under Kazimir Malevich. A lifelong student of the spiritual in art, his compositions convey an aura of meditative mystery, even when rendered in black and white.
