The Rassin Story. Of Love, Loss and Leadership
Far too many great men and women have transformed
history and not gotten the recognition they've earned
for their innovation, toil, and sacrifice. One of those is
my father. By bringing modern healthcare to The Bahamas,
entire generations have lived healthier and more productive
lives. Yet his story has remained untold. Is it because his drive
toward perfection made enemies of other doctors? Is it because
he was never fully accepted by the Bahamian power structure?
Is it because he was a Jew? A clear answer is not easy and likely
found in each of these questions.
Growing up in the shadow of this complex figure was not
easy either, but I adored my father. Like you, my parents made
me so much of who I am. We inherit the values we live, yet
often the best of those values are the most difficult to see. It
can take a life's journey to make that discovery. I write this
story because as I reflect on my life's journey and rise to global
leadership, I want to secure the memory of my parents and
the extraordinary contributions they made to me, and to the
health of all those who visit our islands, from celebrities and
leaders to generations of Bahamians.
