"Granny," I asked, "My generation doesn't know the Lord like your generation does. How can we know Him like y'all do?"
Granny looked at me and stated simply, "Well, I think a lot of it is walking with Him over the course of your lifetime."
It was not the answer to my question that I had wanted. I was looking for a quick, short answer, but it wasn't in her response.
Or maybe it was.
Our grandparents knew the Lord in an intimate way that many of us today do not. We are walking around hurting and afraid to let Him in to our brokenness and pain, but that is exactly where He wants to be.
Christian hymns provide rich theology so that we can see God's character in action through song. When we study those, we can compare it to Who He is and begin to let Him in. As musicians, we can use hymns to teach us to deal with common musician problems. Healing is possible and music is a great gift He gives us to see Himself as He is and to reach others with Chords of Hope.
