Sword and Targe: Fencing with the Highland Weapons is a complete guide to fencing with the Highland sword and targe, based on Donald McBane's Expert Sword-Man's Companion of 1728, Thomas Page's The Use of the Broadsword from 1746, the "Penicuik Sketches" from 1746, and the sword and targe illustration in Alexandre Valville's Treatise on the Contre-Pointe from 1817. The method taught in this book is a combination of all these sources, based on a foundation of historical 18th century broadsword play as taught in multiple different fencing manuals. This book includes dozens of lessons drawn from the works of Donald McBane (1728), Thomas Page (1746), Andrew Lonnergan (1771), John Ferdinand (1788), G. Sinclair (1790), Archibald MacGregor (1791), Henry Angelo (1799), John Taylor (1804), and Thomas Mathewson (1805).
