Doctor Konrad Pearce is a man driven by a dream to serve humanity. He is also a family man and a man of science. His dream, to develop a universal influenza vaccine. From his laboratories at Emmer Pharmaceuticals, Konrad pursues his dream relentlessly, bordering on fanaticism. He views the universe as a massive spider web with endless angles and intersections which must be navigated to a successful conclusion. As he pursues the "question's answer" unimaginable tragedy strikes, propelling Konrad down through that massive spider web into the dark corridors of despair. With only Candace Swanson, virologist and laboratory associate as his companion, Konrad must navigate these dark corridors where nothing is as it seems. On his journey, Konrad will question his very sanity as the reality he holds onto so tightly becomes a wisp of smoke and the dream he has devoted himself to becomes his worst nightmare.
