A year and a half after what most residents simply refer to as "That Nasty Business With Selectman Jarvon", Buster Heywood has cobbled his life back into the same, simple order he'd enjoyed before the gun showed up on his doorstep. His circle of friends is growing, and he's becoming a force for good in their corner of town. So when Officer Troy McLaren shows up on his doorstep, Buster's heart leaps into his throat.

It's not Buster's past Troy is after: it's his future, and his keen observation of things around town. A young Seneca girl has been earmarked for induction into The Organization, and she needs to be kept safe from those who would rather exploit her abilities. Skeptical about the existence of magic, but worried for the child's safety, Buster makes his way back into the deep end of Aviario.
