Description

In June 1969, Helga Müller, 37, lands at JFK in New York from Germany. She is an employee of a German import-export company, who has required to be transferred to the American branch. Helga hides a weighty past, Müller is not her real surname and her family was important during the Nazi regime. In the post-war period, Helga had a troubled existence, she changed domicile several times and has always managed to hide her true origins.
This novel tells the story of this woman and her progressive awareness of Germany's guilt during the Hitler era. In America in the early 1970s, where the wind of individual freedom blows, Helga becomes aware of how her compatriots have not been able to fully face their past and understands how she in the first person could become the architect of German denazification.
