Alex's next adventure following his return from Aetherea takes place in the medieval world of Carthagil, where dragons, magic, and non-human races are part of recorded history. This trip takes him to several places across the world, supernaturally traveling from one place to the next with his new spirit warrior powers. The first destination is the Truthbearer camp, where he is introduced to a spirit-powered language known as Truth. He finds a monk named Filos, who had been wrestling with depression since certain events prior to the writer's arrival. Next, he is transported to a forest where he discovers a group of Lyonairs that have the features of a lynx. There, he travels with Lyn-syra, a mischievous huntress with a bad teasing habit, to Vighdis, where he meets up with an apothecary named William.
The writer eventually arrives in the town of Aenvir, a desert town that is struggling to survive. He and William meet up with Lodyma, a tavern owner with a questionable side business. However, all of this had been planned by the world's creator, known simply as the Author. What this unusual mix of people have in common is that they all bear the Author's breath. Alex's mission, in addition to protecting those who were chosen by the Author, is to slay a dragon that a cult-like organization known as The Order is attempting to revive as part of their goal to revive the once-vanquished Red Nightmare.
