40 Days: By The Spirit

While preparing for a 40-day fast, I made an interesting discovery in the Word of God. I was provoked in my spirit to search the scriptures for the phrase "By the Spirit." While searching, I found 40 instances in the New Testament where that phrase or one similar to it appears.

Intentionally, I used those 40 instances to guide me during the 40 days of fasting. It was not a fast of total abstinence but one of intentional pursuit. I laid aside certain nonessentials to focus my heart on the most essential: living a life marked by the Spirit.
