Description

"Tuscarora" Volume 1 begins in the summer of 1710, even before September 22, 1711, the beginning of the Tuscarora War of 1711 - 1715.
The historical novel tells, among other things, the story of four villages of Southern Tuscarora, which have their home on the southwestern shores of Chackauene Bay, in the immediate vicinity of Bath, the first larger white settlement on Pamlico.
Since the summer of 1710, Derk van der Valk, a youth from the Netherlands, has also lived in Bath, who found a new home in the Carolinas with the family of his merchant uncle.
The increasing conflicts with the cross-border "White Weasels", as the white settlers are called by the Tuscarora, pose very tough challenges not only to the young warriors Blue Jay and Cedar Warbler and their families, but also to Derk, who is trying to assert his place in the New World.
While the attacks of the white settlers on the Tuscarora and their allies in the entire area of northern Carolina are constantly increasing, in which their warriors are assassinated in order to be able to kidnap and enslave their women and children, the Tuscarora begin to defend themselves mercilessly.
Derk gets caught between the fronts more than once, but also takes a great liking to his uncle's General Store, where he spends almost all the time, but also to the Tuscarora, who are still friendly to them, who go in and out of there. His friendship with the Tuscarora, from whom he got the name White Hawk, and with the Fog Moon and the girl Still Water, who is the same age, is put to a very hard test, at the side of which he has to make life-threatening decisions that steer his further life in completely new directions.
