"We are free today substantially, but the day will come when our Republic will be an impossibility. It will be an impossibility because wealth will be concentrated in the hands of a few. A Republic cannot stand upon bayonets, and when the day comes when the wealth of the nation will be in the hands of a few, then we must rely upon the wisdom of the best elements in the country to readjust the laws of the nations to the changed conditions." - James Madison
The day our founders predicted has come. America's financier capitalism is collapsing under its own weight, and if we stand idly by the results will be very, very bad. A century ago an American movement arose that was neither capitalist nor socialist, but laborist. It believed that the profit from work should go to the workers that produced it, not to parasitic capital. It reduced capital's share to a reasonable return on risk. By simple organization it took over the main parties and implemented policy that made a huge improvement in working people's lives. The financiers poured infinite money into attacking it by seeking to divide the movement with false divisions, and ultimately succeeded.
Laborism can rise again. With simple organization working people can take control despite the wealth and power of the parasitic financiers. We can end the damage they do to our politics, society and lives, despite their wealth and their control of the media and academia. But we need to open our eyes to their propaganda, to the false issues and false solutions they have used to divide us. We must see that the real issues can be addressed with solutions that we can all agree on. Working people must see that we are all allies against those who would subdue us. This book explains the path forward. We don't need a revolution. We don't need a Constitutional amendment. We just need to open our eyes, to talk to each other and to spend a little time and effort organizing.
