In the cold mountain town of Ashfern Hollow, faith keeps people silent, and the forest keeps its own. When sixteen-year-old Edda Thorn's sister vanishes on a storm-drenched solstice night, everyone says to pray and move on. But Edda hears something else-whispers from the woods. Familiar. Female. Calling her name.

Her mother begins fasting to "cleanse the house." Her father nails the windows shut. The preacher warns of sinful dreams and daughters marked by darkness. And under the floorboards of the old church, something waits-something that remembers the girls who never returned.

When Edda breaks the rules and enters the forest, she finds secrets buried deep in the roots-symbols no one explains, warnings scratched in stone, and a trail left just for her. The deeper she goes, the more she changes: waking with dirt under her nails, blood in her nose, and voices that sound like Mara, but aren't.

Some say her sister ran away. Others say she was taken.
Edda's beginning to wonder: What if it's both?
