Desi Miller's life essentially begins in his mid-teen years after his family moves to a place so inconsequential that even the streets are nameless. Thus, he enters his self-defined "anonymous" period. He doesn't realize at the time, though, that this anonymity will not last long. Instead, Desi is quickly discovered and ultimately defined by the people around him.
