Description

ABOUT THE BOOK
This book is an adaptation of Theseus' Ship, a philosophy thought experiment from Ancient Greece. In this story, Theseus is a boat builder who is ready for his own adventure. He builds his own boat, puts his name on it, and accepts a cargo delivery mission. During their journey, Theseus and his crew come across hazards at sea that require the crew to use their cargo to completely rebuild Theseus' Ship. After arriving safe at their destination, Theseus wonders if the newly crafted boat is still his ship, or if it was a different ship entirely. All of the pieces had been replaced with the same materials as the original, but it looked different and now all of the original pieces of his ship were underwater. Theseus doesn't know what to think and he could use YOUR help to figure it out!

Note: This book contains abstract philosophical concepts and reflection questions to facilitate a deeper discussion or self-reflection.

ABOUT THE THEORY
Theseus was a legendary hero of the Ancient Athens who was immortalized by Plutarch in his work "The Life of Theseus" in the late 1st century CE. Since it's first proposal, The Ship of Theseus or Theseus' Paradox has become one of the most well-known philosophical thought experiments we know today. The question of the paradox is whether an object is still the same or itself after having all of its parts replaced. Philosophers use this experiment to question identity, sameness, change, and continuity.
