Called to be disciple makers, grandparents are to help their grandchildren learn to love and follow Jesus, become more like Him in their attitudes and actions, and seek to make other disciples who want to do the same. It is a critical role, and, of course, our desire is to fulfill it well. But more often than not when it comes to this mission, we struggle. With the eternal impact weighing heavily on our minds, we find the task overwhelming and wonder where to begin.
The spiritual disciplines - such as Bible reading, prayer, gratitude, worship, and silence and solitude - are key elements in spiritual growth. Rather than simply being things to check off a list, these disciplines are a means for positioning us to spend intimate time with our Heavenly Father and helping us grow to look more and more like Christ. As such, they are a good place to begin in our work of discipleship.
Making Disciples of Our Grandchildren is a helpful and practical resource for grandparents on mission to disciple their grandchildren. Included is a wide variety of activities that can be used to help introduce children to some of the spiritual disciplines and guide them as they grow in their understanding and implementation of each.
