Walston Rings, the Iron Age fort near the village of Great Walston, is a place the inhabitants purposefully avoid. Animals are scarecely found on its summit and outsiders rarely visit twice.
Now a young girl has gone missing and the police have set up an incident room in the local hall. Nearby farm buildings and woodland are being searched. The village is on edge. Into this atmosphere three members of a university archaeological department arrive to begin an exploratory dig of the ancient settlement. It is not long before they uncover the skeleton of a young girl. Iron Age, of course. But then a second body is revealed. These bones, too, looks ancient. And yet something found lying with them surely should not be there...
