Adam Wright had always loved Stephanie Wells, the problem he had was, she didn't love him back, only as a friend. Stephanie loved being the centre of attention, and when she didn't get the attention she demanded, this is when the trouble started. She was a real daddy's girl, so when she made sexual abuse allegations against him, many people including close family and friends didn't believe her. But these allegations would in time split the family up.
Colin Wright was a rich, successful, good-looking, high performance car dealer who liked nothing more than spending money on fast cars and women. Stephanie Wells had an eye for the older man, especially Colin Wright. His affair with her mother angered and annoyed her. "How could an old cow like my mother get some rich, successful, good-looking man." So, Stephanie went out of her way to make sure she caught Colin Wright's eye.
Thomas Phillips was an old war hero who had served in the Second World War. But in the years since the end of the war his apparently untroubled home life was in truth, anything but. Mary Phillips had cared for her husband, especially in later life as Alzheimer's disease took hold of him.
Emma Hobbs worried about her parents, more so since her father's health took a turn for the worst. Emma had wanted for a while now to move from Cardiff to Reading to be nearer her parents, but her husband didn't want to know. Robert Hobbs was more than happy to spend his life in Cardiff, as far away from his in-laws as possible. Emma knew her relationship with her husband was destined for trouble, the pair had started to drift further and further apart over recent months, more so since his brother had been released from prison.
The disappearance of Stephanie Wells and Thomas Phillips on the same night had added to Chief Inspector Johnny Allen's problems. He was already up against it, a spate of jewellery shop ram raids in recent weeks over the south of England and Wales had seen to this. Chief Superintendent Davidson, and Chief Constable Walker had been on at him for the lack of results.
Inspector Peter Walsh had always wanted to work alongside Chief Inspector Johnny Allen, now he was going to get his chance. Chief Inspector Allen, and Inspector Walsh's investigation into the disappearance of Thomas Phillips and Stephanie Wells, leads them to a possible link to the ram raids.
