State-hopping RV traveler, Tulia Blake and her assistant, Olivia, are staying in a hotel in Chicago while Tulia's RV is getting some regular maintenance done. Because their stay was scheduled at the last minute, they have to share a suite, but the gorgeous view of Lake Michigan more than makes up for the minor inconvenience.

Feeling upbeat and ready to get back into the swing of things after a long vacation and a few quiet days catching up on work in Indiana, they're excited to explore everything that Chicago has to offer.

Their plans take a dark turn, however, when the two of them witness a murder. The culprit vanishes down an alley, which leads Tulia to believe that the primary suspects are likely to be the people who work at the businesses that back up into the alley - a boutique pet store and grooming salon, a donut shop, and a used bookstore.

Certain that one of the locals is hiding a dark secret, Tulia is determined to uncover the truth.
