While attending Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa, OK, the Lord laid it upon my heart to establish a ministry to disciple and build up men spiritually. Thomas Terry, an Army Sergeant, and I took a few men on retreats for fellowship, workshops, fun, food, and sports activities. The retreats were fruitful for the men.
I moved to the Washington D. C. area after graduating from ORU. I launched Fishers of Men Ministries. I facilitated retreats for men and even took homeless men on these retreats. While at First Baptist Church Glenarden, the Late Deacon Jones and I organized the first men's retreat. 50-plus men attended. It was the beginning of a phenomenon. Prior to the Pandemic over 700 men at the FBCG went on retreats annually.
In February 2017, Rickey Porter and I launched a Knee Call to Men platform. In the genesis of the call, it was only the two of us. Later, Apostle Thomas Terry, Pastor George Henderson and Dr. Morgan Hill joined and became co-hosts and a monthly presenter. Gradually more men joined.
We now have over 50 men committed to the Monday morning call, some regularly and others periodically. The youngest and his family, age 16, young men, in their 20's and 30's and seasoned men, 40's to 70's call in from the USA, Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon, Uganda and Thailand. It has become a global call and network.
