This collection features images of the natural beauty and historical significance of Fort Fisher, North Carolina. Site of a massive Confederate fortress designed to protect the entrance to the Cape Fear River, Fort Fisher was captured by Union forces in a bloody battle in January of 1865. Several features of the original fort remain intact and the site is a popular destination for people who are interested in Civil War history as well as the natural beauty of the North Carolina coast.
