He won Entertainer of the Year in 1975, starred in the movie "Oh God!" with George Burns and was directed by Carl Reiner. Denver was friends with President Jimmy Carter, Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets and oceanographer Jacque Cousteau. He had a passion for the world community and performed in the USSR in 1985, 1986 and 1987 as well as China in 1992.
He was hurt when he was snubbed by the "We Are the World" production involving over 45 singers to raise money for the drought and famine strickent countries of Africa. Dener was the artist who had done more on the issue of world hunger than any other artist. He believed in protecting the planet and that we lived in a global village.
His Greatest Hits album sold over 10 million copies and was a top seller for RCA Records. He had fur number one hits and a slew of top ten hits that resulted in 14 gold and 8 platimum ablums. His most loved and recognized songs are "Rocky Mountain High," "Annie's Song," "Sunshine on My Shoulders," "Take Me Home Country Road" and "Thank God I'm a Country Boy."
