"Little Europe on the Ganges" refers to an assortment of former European trading settlements along the Ganges near Kolkata (Calcutta) in West Bengal, India. During the 17th and 18th centuries, several European major powers-namely the Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, French and English-established trading posts and settlements along this river to engage in commerce, particularly in textiles and spices.
