Many believed convicted pharmacist Michael Jason Kerkowski, along with his girlfriend Tammy Lynn Fassett, fled the United States to avoid being sentenced for insurance fraud and illegally selling prescription painkillers.
More than a year after Kerkowski and Fassett were last seen, the mystery ended when their bodies were unearthed from a shallow grave behind the Kingston Township, Pa, home where Kerkowski's "best friend" Hugo Marcus Selenski lived.
Investigators also found human remains of three other people who were burned in a pit on the property.
Days after being charged with murder, Selenski escaped from the maximum security floor at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility using 15 bedsheets tied together to descend 70 feet, which led to a massive weekend manhunt until he surrendered from the scene where the bodies of Kerkowski and Fassett and the burn pit were found.
