In the wake of World War II, Europe lay in ruins, with countless orphaned children struggling to survive in a suddenly large and empty world. Among these children were two young boys, Bob Kowalski and Mike Muller, who had lost their families to the horrors of the Nazi regime. Bob and Mike were born to Jewish parents.
They meet in a market square, each searching for food and shelter, and they quickly form an inseparable bond. Driven by the shared trauma of losing their parents, they initially dream of avenging their families by fighting against the Nazis.
