For nearly two decades, John M. Crisp wrote a weekly, nationally distributed newspaper column that was printed in papers ranging from the Chicago Tribune, Newsday, and the Minnesota Star Tribune to the Fresno Bee and the Billings Gazette. His subject was primarily politics, but he wrote also about animals, sports, war, and a variety of issues including the health of the planet and medical assistance in dying. The writer also reflects very briefly on growing up in an era that valued books and writers and on the circuitous and uncertain path that eventually led to this book.
