Chapter one
Introduction to Amlodipine
Amlodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker primarily used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain). It works by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing for easier blood flow, which effectively reduces blood pressure and relieves the heart's workload. Since its introduction in the late 1980s, amlodipine has become one of the most prescribed medications in its class worldwide.
