While preparing for Cultural Day at her daughter's school, the author set out to find a children's book that introduced South Indian festivals in a fun and inclusive way-something that would resonate with young readers from all backgrounds. When she couldn't find the right match, she decided to create one herself.

Though Nila lives far from India, she travels each year to celebrate the vibrant harvest festival of Onam with her family. From creating colorful flower carpets and enjoying traditional feasts to joining in joyful games and dances, Nila's journey invites readers to experience the warmth, love, and sense of togetherness that make this festival truly special.
