A character in the novel is likened to a solar eclipse of darkness, with the light from the stars serving as small rays of hope. The dark moments of life's mistakes that attempted to swallow him and make him believe that his two options were to either go to hell or the gloomy, muted lights of prison. Through his reading and ordinary life-altering experiences, he understands that everyone has shortcomings and/or impairments. He also learns how to overcome his situations, often with the help of unseen but understood invisible forces. Through the lens of difficult events, life can seem blinding yet hope never dies. He starts to realize that there are times in life that define who you are and that you have to face challenges head-on in order to discover your inner serenity and strength. Faith and the truth will always keep us on the direct path towards light amid our darkest eclipses.
