This volume, From Paul to Timothy: Mentorship Matters, is a compilation of manuscript sermons I originally preached in a series of sermons, entitled, "Guard the Gospel" to the members of New Zion Baptist Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 2001; a congregation I served from 1990 to 2006. The sermon theme evolved from a book I read with the same title. Although I did not then or now agree with the political and social views of the author of that book, his exegesis of scripture covering First and Second Timothy was exceptional. It inspired me to preach this sermon series. These sermons were birthed in the pulpit but rooted in prayer, preparation, and pastoral love. Over the years, these sermons have been edited, re-preached in various settings, and refined through the lens of time and experience. I now publish them not only as a record of faithful preaching but also as a resource for young ministers entering the Gospel ministry.
It is my prayer that as you read these sermons, you will hear the echo of Paul's voice mentoring Timothy, and in that echo, may you find clarity for your calling, strength for your journey, and encouragement to serve the Lord with humility, conviction, and faithfulness. May this work serve as a bridge between generations, affirming once again that mentorship matters-because ministry matters.
